See Clearly How To Get A New Smile

By now, you may have heard of Invisalign. You may even know someone who has tried this alternative to traditional metal braces.

But you may be wondering something else. Does Invisalign work?

At Highlands Ranch Smiles, our dentists can tell you that it can and it does work for a number of patients. Invisalign may not be a good treatment option for patients with severe teeth alignment issues, but we can assure you that it does work on a wide range of problems.

Whether you are a teenager who is considering orthodontic treatment or an adult who is ready to fix something that has been bothering you for years about your smile, it’s worth finding out if Invisalign can work for you.

You may find it is a better option to straighten your teeth.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign uses a series of plastic aligners.

Your aligners are created especially for you. Each aligner is made with computer-aided design to keep your teeth moving in the right direction.

When you put in your first aligner, it will start gently pushing your teeth into a straighter position. After a few weeks, you will replace that with the next aligner, which will push your teeth a little more.

You will continue this process until your treatment is complete. Invisalign patients need an average of 12 months to complete the treatments, which is about half the time needed for the average patient wearing braces.

To be clear, you time could be less than a year or a little longer depending on the specifics of your situation and how careful you are about using your aligners.

To get the best results, you need to wear the aligners for 22 hours each day. You can remove them during meals and when you are brushing and flossing your teeth. (You’ll also need to clean the aligners.)

That’s one of the benefits compared to braces, which you will have on your teeth 24 hours a day, every day until your treatment is complete. This also helps you understand why you need to avoid hard, crunchy, chewy, and sticky foods when you have braces.

How Noticeable Is Invisalign?

The aligners are made of plastic, and that plastic is transparent, as invisible.

This may be the biggest advantage that Invisalign has over braces. When you have brackets and wires attached to your teeth, there’s really no way to hide that from the people that you meet.

If you are already self-conscious about your smile, this may make you more uncomfortable during your treatment.

In contrast, Invisalign aligners are so discreet that most people you interact with on a daily basis won’t realize you are wearing anything over your teeth.

This is a great thing for shy teenagers and for working professionals who have to meet with clients and customers on a regular basis.

But Will Invisalign Work For You?

There’s a good chance that it will. As we said earlier, we may not recommend Invisalign for the most severe alignment cases. However, it can work on many different kinds of alignment problems.

Here are some examples:

  • Gaps Between Your Teeth — You may wish you could get rid of the extra space between two or more of your teeth. Invisalign is a fast and effective way to solve this problem.
  • Crooked Teeth — Crooked teeth happen. When your permanent teeth are erupting, sometimes they don’t come in as straight as they could. Sometimes the space in your mouth is at a premium, which forces some teeth to erupt at odd angles in order to fit. Invisalign can get your teeth where you want them to be.
  • Overbites And Underbites — If your top teeth stick out more than you would like or your bottom teeth push out further than your top row, you may want to change you smile. Invisalign moves your teeth so that your bite is better matched.
  • Open Bites — If you close your mouth, but your teeth don’t touch, then you may have an open bite. This can develop from habitual actions, but you can fix it. Invisalign can push your teeth so that your bite closes like it should.
