We love to see kids here at Highlands Ranch Smiles. It's great to have a kiddo come in and they need a filling maybe. We're able to get them comfortable in our dental chair, get a movie going. Have to go through that numbing process that most people really worry about, especially when it's your kid's. I can't tell you how many times, most of the time when we get a child numb, they don't know what's going on. They are zoning out to the movie, just loving and watching that, especially Frozen. I can see them bouncing around, actually, make sure that the music's playing when the numbing part goes. I'm able just to sneak in there, get the anesthetic going. Then there's a much better experience. We just take care of that little cavity, get it all cleaned up. Create just a great experience for them so that there's not that anxiety that they might have them in the future. Knowing that we're avoiding the anxiety that a lot of adults that we see have because of their past experiences. Knowing that we're creating positive ones for kids is really a big reward for me.
To help ensure a lasting, healthy smile, bring your child in for their first dental visit by their first birthday and for regular dental exams every six months after that.

Our Children’s Dentistry Team Is Crazy About Kids
Our three doctors and entire team enjoy working with kids. Dr. Michelle Haynes is the mother of two toddlers and has enjoyed focusing on providing pain-free experiences for your children. In fact, Dr. Haynes says one of her best days as a dentist was having a 6-year-old patient say to her after getting a tooth filling: “We are done? That was easy.”
Many of us are parents ourselves, so we are never flustered by your children’s out-of-left-field questions or even occasional tears.
Our team enjoys educating your youngsters about good dental hygiene, whether it is showing them proper tooth brushing techniques or talking to them about how too much sugar isn’t good for their teeth.
We’ve even set up a special area for children in our spacious waiting room, complete with kid-friendly movies they can watch!
We Provide Kid-Friendly Hours
We offer extended hours at our Highlands Ranch, CO dentist office to make it easy for you to bring in your children before school or after baseball practice. We open at 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday and at 7 a.m. on Friday. We’re open until 6 p.m. on Monday and until 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. These appointments fill up fast, so schedule in advance!
Our schedule not only makes it simple to see your family for regular dental appointments but also to work in any dental emergencies.
Protecting Your Children’s Teeth
We often recommend two treatments designed to give your children an extra edge in the battle against tooth decay. We just brush these treatments onto their teeth, so there is no discomfort. They can help cavity-prone adults too!
- We can apply a fluoride varnish to help prevent cavities. It goes on sticky but quickly dries.
- We can also apply thin plastic coatings on your child’s back teeth that help protect them from dental decay. We apply the clear sealants and then “cure” them with a special light.
