Could Your Smile Change In 6 Months?

Based on a quick Internet search, here are some things you can learn in six months:

  • CPR and first aid
  • Video editing
  • Microsoft Office
  • Scuba diving
  • Public speaking

We will leave it to you do decide how doable those things are in half a year, but we have something we can help you accomplish in about six months — change your smile.

If you started today, you might have a new, straight smile by New Year’s Day.

At Highlands Ranch Smiles, we know many adults would like their teeth to be straighter than they are. Six Month Smiles may be able to help you achieve this goal sooner than you realized was possible.

What Are Six Month Smiles?

Is it a revolutionary new orthodontic method? Not exactly.

Is it some kind of experimental technique in dentistry? Not really.

Then what is it? Basically, they are braces but used in a more focused and controlled way.

Here’s how it works.

With traditional braces, a dentist or orthodontist will attach brackets to your teeth and run a wire between them. These will guide the movement of your teeth until they are straight.

Six Month Smiles works the same way, with one important difference. Six Month Smiles is only trying to move a few of your teeth.

Here’s why that matters. Traditional braces are intended to make all your teeth as straight as possible. You are moving your incisors, canines, bicuspids, and molars.

When you smile, other people do not see all these teeth, particularly your molars. These are the bigger (and therefore heavier) teeth in the back of your mouth.

This is also why orthodontic treatment with traditional braces takes two years on average, although it can last longer for some more complicated cases.

If your goal is to improve the appearance of your smile, then traditional braces may be doing more work than you really need.

With Six Month Smiles, we will only be moving the teeth in the front of your mouth. Those teeth are smaller (and lighter) and can be moved more easily. While six months may not seem fast, it is considerably “faster” than traditional braces.

While Six Month Smiles is the name, that is also an indication of how long the average treatment takes. You may be finished in five months or seven months depending on the particular problems you are trying to fix.

In rare and complex cases, your treatment could last nine months, but that is not typical for most patients.

Who Can Benefit From Six Month Smiles?

Everyone wants to have a nice smile, yet many people are not satisfied with how their teeth look when they look in the mirror.

Maybe you had braces when you were younger but your teeth relapsed. That’s when they drift back toward their original positions.

Maybe you never had braces, but now that you are a working adult, you would like to fix the things that bother you about your smile.

Six Month Smiles may be the perfect solution for you.

This treatment can be used to address a variety of problems, including:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Spaces between teeth
  • Bite alignment issues

To find out if Six Month Smiles will work for you, we would encourage you to schedule a consultation with one of our dentists. We can help you determine if you are a good candidate for this short-term orthodontic treatment and help you decide if it is the right treatment for you.

Benefits Of A Nice Smile

Based on what we have observed in our office, many patients feel more confident when they have completed their treatment.

They are less self-conscious about their teeth, and they smile easily.

Surveys have demonstrated that smiles are one of the things people remember most when meeting someone for the first time. They have also shown that people with nice smiles are considered friendlier and more trustworthy, too.
