All-on-4® Could Mean More For You

Alison always used to smile. Anywhere that she went, she greeted anyone with her warm grin.

Then something happened. Alison lost one of her teeth … then another one … then two more. Today, she doesn’t have any of her natural teeth left.

She got a set of dentures, but it’s not the same as having her teeth. She still smiles, but it’s not as wide, and people have noticed that she isn’t as happy as she once was.

If Alison lived near Highlands Ranch, CO, we might be able to recommend a way to regain her old smile. The All-on-4® procedure could give her back her old smile … and more.

How Alison Got To This Point

Before we go any further, we want to be clear that Alison isn’t a real patient, although many people many be able to relate to her situation.

Alison developed gum disease, and that’s how she lost her first tooth. (FYI: Gum disease is the leading cause of lost teeth in the United States.)

After having her gum disease treated, she didn’t do anything to replace her first tooth. That allowed the adjacent teeth to drift into the vacant space. With time, the problem got worse, and more teeth fell out.

At that point, Alison was too embarrassed to go to the dentist. She also became ashamed of talking to people and started making excuses to get out of meeting her friends.

As she lost more teeth, Alison decided that she couldn’t keep living like this, and she finally overcame her proud and came to the dentist.

After evaluating the health of her teeth, she got a set of dentures. This restored the appearance of teeth, but she would learn that it wasn’t quite the same as replacing her teeth.

She had trouble chewing things like steak and chicken. She quit trying to eat one of her favorite foods — hot, buttered corn on the cob — because she was more like to pop her dentures out of position that to get a mouthful of corn.

How Would All-On-4 Help

If Alison was one of our patients, we would explain the benefits of dental implants.

Dental implants replace the roots of lost and missing teeth. One of their main benefits is they could help Alison maintain the health of her jawbone.

The implants would press into her jaw like your roots once did, and that would encourage new growth. This would allow the jawbone to bond directly to her implants, and it would keep the remaining parts of her jaw healthy and strong.

This makes implants a stable foundation to supported a set of dentures. From a cosmetic standpoint, implant dentures can look realistic and quite similar to a natural set of teeth.

Perhaps more important, implant dentures are much more like full teeth replacements.

Studies have demonstrated that patients with implant dentures can regain close to 100 percent of their original bite force.

With All-on-4, it’s possible to accomplish this with just four strategically placed dental implants. For Alison, this could mean putting corn on the cob back on her plate.

All-on-4 has another benefit as well. With many dental implant procedures, patients will wait for months as their jaw heals before their replacement teeth can be attached to their implants.

With All-on-4, we are often able to place a set of temporary replacement teeth on the same day that patients get their implants. As their jaw heals, they gain more strength in their bite and a greater appreciation for how All-on-4 implant dentures do much more than traditional dentures alone.
